A Walk in the Park

This is my last post from Italy, this means summer is well and truly over. This wonderful little holiday seems like so long ago now, must be time to start planning the next one I think.

On our last day in Rome we had a late flight and so pretty much a whole day to enjoy the city. Our hotel was only a few blocks from Villa Borghese, a stunning park to the north of the city. Like everywhere in Rome there are beautiful little surprises everywhere in this park, a stunning fountain here, a beautiful horse sculpture there or a pretty little gazebo. It’s like an outdoor art gallery treasure hunt.

I know what you’re thinking, where are the photos of all these surprises? They will remain surprises unless you visit as its not easy to take photos while whizzing around on a Segway. Yes we caved to the modern day tourist must have and rented some Segways. We didn’t leave the park on them though and promise we didn’t annoy anyone by whizzing past a bit to close.

At one end of the park there is a stunning view of the city, that’s St Peter’s you can see in the background. It’s worth a short trip to the park for that view alone. I do recommend a stroll around though as a welcome change of pace from the bustling city.

  1. I’ve never been to Rome even though I lived in Italy for a year. From all of your posts, looks like a beautiful city to visit and find all the little surprises as you have put!
