A few weeks ago we took another little trip north out of the city. This time for the Man’s birthday. Just outside of Lochgilphead you find the Kirnan Estate with three self catering cottages and a new log cabin.
We opted for the log cabin which was a good choice. This is probably the best cabin we’ve stayed in. It has everything you need and some luxury extras, like a coffee maker and DAB radio. The rainfall shower is better than my shower at home, with twinkly lights in the wet room ceiling you could hang out in there all day. I have to say I loved the modern decor rather than the kitschy Scottish tartan you normally see.
There’s pretty much no phone signal in the cabin, which after an hour or two of getting use to actually allows for a welcome break from the world. Spending an evening in the BBQ hut, chatting and listening to music rather than having your face stuck in your iPad is what these kinda breaks are all about after all. If you can’t cope with being entirely out the loop the honesty bar on site has free wifi available, along with comfy sofas, beer tap and prosecco fridge. Just remember to pay your bill before you leave.
The location is pretty fab too. Plenty places to explore within driving distance or you can just hang out in the estate like us. We took a mile hike through the forest on Saturday afternoon to the loch. The views were worth the hike and Seb enjoyed trying to catch the broken ice from the frozen Loch, it was November in Scotland after all.
Oh and I mustn’t forget the hot tubs! Yes I said tubs plural. Our cabin had its own outdoor wood burning tub, given the temperatures had recently hit -10 we didn’t attempt to fire her up. We did try out the spa tub on site in its own little cabin. This is available to all the visitors but you do get private use of the hot tub simply switching on the light to say your in there. It was divine on a cold Scottish evening.
